Pittsburgh Daring Businesswoman; Susan McGallaApril 10, 2017 - Author: steph
Today, in the business sector, just like many other principal sectors of the economy, is male dominance. However, a few exceptional women have broken the deadlock and scaled up the ladder to advance their careers in this area. Susan McGalla has not been left behind in this quest.
Susan McGalla was born in 1964, in Ohio. She attended Mount Union College and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in business and marketing. Presently, she serves as a board advisor to the college. Her career cruised at Joseph Horne where she served in various capacities in both marketing and management for eight years. Later in 1994, she joined American Eagle Outfitters as a departmental merchandiser specializing in women’s clothing.
Just like in her previous work, she had an aptitude for growth, and it did not take her long to climb to the management level. She served as the chief merchandising officer and president of the company’s American Eagle brand and later on became the whole company’s president and CMO. It was then that she presided over the launch of the firm’s 77kids and Aerie brands.
In search of personal actualization and career fulfilment, Susan McGalla in January 2009 left American Eagle. She went ahead to become a private consultant for both financial and retail investment industries. Later that year, she was appointed Board of Directors of HFF which is a publicly traded company that offers commercial real estate services. Two years down the line, this dream-driven lady took over the mantle of chief executive officer of West Seal from Ed Thomas though not for long for they parted ways a year later. It is then that she forged ahead and founded P3 Executive Consulting.
She also serves at Pittsburgh Steelers as the Vice President, the second most powerful being, in the Division of Business Strategy and Creative Development. Also, McGalla is formerly a trustee of Pittsburgh University and also in the Directorate of ACCD which is a community program.
Susan McGalla offers her professional advice on branding, marketing, operational efficiencies and talent management. She stands on the front-line lobbying for women to get ahead in the business sector by offering them her expert opinion not only to individuals but also conferences like the Speaker Series for CEOs and Women and Girl’s Foundation of Pittsburgh. She encourages women to disregard gender when it comes down to business and be ready to be professionals when the opportunity presents itself. She attributes her success to her inbuilt self-confidence gained from growing and working in a predominantly male environment. Check this on lulu.com.
