Brazilian law has been effective since October 21st 1998. It is composed of German, French, Italian and Portuguese civil law. It is considered as the supreme law of the country and binds all state departments, public actors, it is very rigid making Brazil a Federative Republic. The 26 states that make up Brazil are undissolved according the Brazilian constitution.

Brazil has the third largest number of lawyers in the world. It has more of law schools as compared to other countries. The Brazilian bar association is left with the big role of regulating then number of certified and registered lawyers in Brazil. The Brazilian bar association known as Order of Attorney of Brazil was founded in 1930. The private organization is independent and is not regulated or controlled by the government.
For one to become a registered lawyer in Brazil, there is a bar examination that they have to take after the completion of their Bachelors of Law. The examination is administered in two phases as written and multi choice exams. They are offered in March, august and December. That ensures that the Brazilian lawyers are competent and well conversant with the law before being admitted to the bar.
