March 17, 2015 - Author: steph - No Comments

The family of the late singer songwriter Marvin Gaye have filed an injunction to stop all use of Blurred Lines, USA Today reports. The family of the soul icon have already won a compensation claim against Pherrell Williams and Robin Thicke that has seen them awarded over $7 million in damages. The latest lawsuit would see all sales, plays and downloads of the song halted as a new royalty contract is negotiated between the parties involved.

The GAYE family have already successfully argues the song, which sold seven million copies in the US alone, copied Gaye’s 1977 hit Got To Give It Up. The family has also opened up a new area of their claim according to Gianfrancesco Genoso by seeking to alter the royalty payments being made to rapper TI for his performance on the song. The family have stated they are standing up for the rights of Marvin Gaye as a writer and for all artists who can see their work copied in the digital age we live in.
