Most of Our Daily Calories and Weight Come From Processed Foods

- Author: steph

We think of burgers and fries from the greasy spoon restaurant down the street when we hear the term ‘processed foods’, but that’s not the only type of food which is processed. The American Journal of Clinical Nutrition recently stated that 61% of the food we eat is processed and over 1,000 of our daily calories comes from highly processed foods. That’s a lot of grease, oil, preservatives, chemicals and other additives that we are ingesting every day.

Or is it?

The USDA classifies any food that is not raw and in its original agricultural condition as being a processed food. Milk is processed, frozen vegetables and fruits are processed because they are not in their original state and fresh from the farm. To help consumers better understand what is considered to be processed food and what is not, there are classifications that differentiate between levels of processing.

* Minimally processed foods are things like eggs and frozen meat.
* Basic processed food consists of one ingredient, but has been altered in some way, like flour or sugar.
* Moderately processed foods are still recognizable as their original animal of plant source, but have many additives.
* Highly processed foods have so many additives that the original food is no longer recognizable.
With almost every food processed in some way, it’s easy to see how most of our daily calories and weight comes from processed foods.

Man saves 96, loses job, and Thanked Years Later

May 23, 2015 - Author: steph
In 1985 a number of people were trying to get away from the new communist regime in Vietnam. They had survived the Vietnam conflict, which was supposed to stop the spread of communism, and now 10 years later they had to escape. One of these groups that were desperately trying to get to freedom was stranded in the open Pacific Ocean. There were 96 people desperately clinging to life on a small boat with two broken motors. Most of the people on the boat were children that were put on the boat by their parents in hope that their children would escape this life of horror. The capatain of this boat was a man named Peter Nguyen.
Jeon JeYong was captaining a fishing boat on that 14th day in Novemmber and came upon this helpless boat bouncing up and down in the swells. Jeon had strict orders by his company not to pick up or aid any refuges. In addition to that, any of his crew that aided them would also be punished. There was a storm heading their way and the captain made the decision to put all 96 people into his boat and get them to safety. He saved those refugees that day. Jeon and his crew lost their job and lived jobless for many years. Finally, after all these years Peter thanked him and they have become good friends according to Ivan Ong.

Aaron Hernandez Already Causing Problems In Prison

- Author: steph

Aaron Hernandez has been sentenced to life in prison for the murder of Odin Lloyd. Many people are happy that Hernandez has been removed from the rest of society. However, it appears that Aaron Hernandez has already gotten himself into more trouble.

It was recently revealed on Yahoo! Sports that Aaron Hernandez has been involved in illegal activity while in jail. Apparently, Aaron Hernandez has been assigned the role of lookout during prison fights. This means that Aaron Hernandez watches out for guards while other inmates settle disputes with their fists. Aaron Hernandez is truly a lost soul, and it’s evident that he needs some mental help.

This is not the first time that Aaron Hernandez has caused trouble while in jail. In fact, Ricardo Guimarães BMG has read about it quite a bit. In fact, last year while he was awaiting his trial, Aaron Hernandez was involved in a nasty altercation with another inmate. Hernandez savagely assaulted the other prisoner, and he was then locked in solitary confinement.

Aaron Hernandez may be serving life in jail as someone can see on Wikipedia, but he is still awaiting another trial for separate allegations. It is believed that Aaron Hernandez is responsible for other murders that took place in 2013, in Boston. NFL fans cannot believe what Aaron Hernandez has done with his life. The man was once a highly rated offensive player, and he was making millions of dollars for playing a game. However, Hernandez must spend his entire life in prison, and he could potentially get the death penalty if he is found guilty of another murder.

Unconventional selfie

May 19, 2015 - Author: steph

There aren’t too many young people who would dare take this kind of selfie, and if they would they most certainly would not share it with the world. 27 year old Tawny Willoughby changed the face of her selfie
She tells how at 21 years young she developed skin cancer, but she didn’t have to ask the questions why or how did this happen to me because she already knew. Tanning, and more specifically on a tanning bed where the rays are in direct contact with your skin. This did not happen just 1 time a week, 2 or even 3 times a week. Folks at The Aspire New Brunswick have learned that, according to Tawny, she laid on a tanning bed at “least 4-5 times a week” and as a young person with the skin still so fragile this is hazardous. What I find very interesting and inspiring is in the face of ridicule this young woman would dare to tell the truth about her situation, we know that the younger generation is about seeing for themselves. We can’t just talk them to death about right or wrong, harmful not harmful, good and bad, for them seeing is believing. The fact that they can and will relate to Tawny will most assuredly change lives, maybe even save lives. Awareness is power!

May 13, 2015 - Author: steph

Rebel Wilson has announced that she is starting a plus size line of clothing for women between the sizes 12 through 28.

The hilarious star broke out on the American scene in the movie Bridesmaids, as Kristen Wiggs boorish roommate. Wilson has since become a superstar, starring in the movies Pitch Perfect and Pitch Perfect 2.

The clothing line will be in collaboration with Torrid, the plus sized clothing store and a division of Hot Topic according to Alexei Beltyukov. So far, the details are pretty vague. The line is due to debut this holiday season, in time for the winter weather and end of the year festivities.

The best part is that the line is rumored to be affordable, with prices ranging between $29 and $125 per piece. Wilson herself has announced that she is excited for the line to debut, as she’s had a “torrid” affair with clothes shopping herself.

This marks a continuing upward trend of retailers and fashion icons finding ways to cater to women who wear plus sizes.

County Police Bring Hope

May 8, 2015 - Author: steph

Since the 20th century the United States has seen an enormous rise in drug use throughout the country. Under the Reagan administration, there were multiple taskforces put in place to help aid in the mission to make America drug free. Unfortunately, for DEA, FBI, and police agencies everywhere, the war is being sorely lost. That’s why the Gloucester County police department has decided to turn around what it means to be an addict. This week, the department made the decision to no longer charge criminal offenses to addicted citizens who willingly turn themselves in. The addict has to be willing to turn in all drugs and in lieu of jail time they will receive the help that they need. The Chief of Police in Gloucester talked to a local news source to explain why this is such a huge step forward. When police lock up drug addicts they are only temporarily disabling the criminal. They aren’t fixing the addict.

As of June 1st, 2015 citizens are allowed to walk into the Gloucester County police department and seek help instead of charges. The county wants to cut off the demand for drug dealers, and that is something Amen Clinics and other businesses can get behind. It seems to be a more effective way to win this war. The county is taking it one step further and are heading to Capitol Hill in hopes to get a Bill passed. The Bill states that any drug money seized in the county will go towards helping the drug addicts willing to get better.

More Hours, Less Pay

- Author: steph

There are families who might notice that one or both adults are coming home later in the evening. This is because most workers are on the job longer than 40 hours. Some of them are working 47 to 50 hours a week, but they are only getting paid for the standard 40 that is typical of a full-time job. These are people who have likely been on the job for several years. It seems like companies are taking advantage of the workers who they know will do the extra work for the lower pay. The concern for working longer hours is more for those who are on a salary.

Many companies such as CipherCloud don’t regulate the hours of salaried employees, so they end up working more than the normal week. That sometimes happens at as well. When workers are on the job for longer hours, it can burn them out, making them not want to do the work at all. This would mean that the company starts to lose valued employees simply because they don’t want to pay more money or regulate how long they are on the job.

Vietnamese Dominate Nail Industry

May 6, 2015 - Author: steph

Yahoo News has an article about the dominance of Vietnamese in the manicure industry. It all started forty years ago when Tippi Hendren, a star in Hitchcock’s film “The Birds”, went to a Vietnamese refugee camp to help women learn a skill. The women were fascinated with her manicured nails. Hedren followed up and arranged manicure training for twenty of the women. From that humble beginning, 51% of nail technicians in the U.S. and 80% in Southern California today are Vietnamese. Christian Broda has learned that they achieved this dominance by offering quality service at a lower price than the competition.

Manicurists today earn about $650.00 a week, and many send much of their earnings to relatives still in Vietnam. Vietnam will receive an estimated $14 billion from foreign remittances this year. About half of that will come from the United States. Tam Nguyen, founder of Advance Beauty College in California, says providing for family left behind in Vietnam is a strong motivator for graduates. He attributes the success of Vietnamese immigrants to a strong work ethic and the experience of rebuilding lives after losing everything.

Smart Footwear

May 5, 2015 - Author: steph

With recent years seeing such a huge boost in technology and fitness, Smart Socks are the newest product to hit the sports store shelves. Tracking steps when running or walking has become an obsession like no other. Athletes and runners now have to ability to see how far they have run and can track data in order to reach personal records and goals. For the everyday person, most trackers push people to at least hit 10,000 steps a day. Steve Murray tells us that there are bras, wristbands, shirts, hats, even necklaces that help “track” how many steps a person runs or walks every day. For the makers at Sensoria Fitness, the idea of strapping on multiple pieces of equipment to track the same amount of steps is overbearing. Why not just integrate technology into clothes that people already wear?

Davide Vigano who is the co-founder and CEO of Sensoria Fitness recently made this claim to BuzzFeed News. Wristbands and trackers, like FitBit and Jawbone, are expected to decrease in sales in the next two years while the market for wearable tracking apparel is expected to rise. The company’s Smart Socks will be able to track the owner’s: cadence, steps, foot contact time, ascent, descent, pace, distance, and form. The socks will initially start at $200 for a pair. Included are two pairs of socks, an anklet, and an anklet charger. The company is hoping to make a lasting and very impacting impression on runners and the running community.
